Custom Jewelry Challenge

Hi Nida, This is a very neat design. we can improve the user experience by modifying the following: 1. Since users mostly scan the pages and not read every sentence the monthly subscription pop up CTA could be labeled as subscription details or something similar rather than learn more as that is more vague and it forces users to read the entire paragraph to understand what they need to learn more about. 2. The customization flow starts with engraving and then selecting the color of the jewel but the flow does not cover how users can get into the customization flow, there is no link or button on the product details page for customization. Also during the customization process there is no way for a user to go back to step 1 to make any modifications if needed. 3. If a user does not want to engrave can step1 be skipped and moved on to step 2 ? 4. Starting the customization with engraving is unique and might not exactly match the users mental model but this needs to be tested with usability testing. Overall a very clean design . Thank you!

Hey E. Sink, I really like your solution here. I would like to point out one thing though. The way that you laid out the "Choose a different style" and "Switch out for another item", it looks like they are steps 1 and 2. But the user is probably gonna wanna do one of them at a time. So I suggest either displaying them side by side, or having two tabs below the item saying "customize" and "Swap", or having a button there to swap the item (as that might not be the primary action) with the customization options displayed just there. Additionally, to make things more interesting you can change up the layout a bit so that the image of the current item selected covers up most of the screen, and the user can see the customizations in action. Try out a 2 column pattern. Align things left instead of center.

Hey Hetvi, I really like the color theme that you chose for this. Although I do agree with E. Sink that the button contrast could be improved. Here are some other points I'd like to add to that: 1. So the problem statement mentioned that the business owner has a monthly subscription model. But I see that your flows don't mention anything about that. Right now, they're focused on customizing the jewelry to buy and the customizations themselves are nothing but different unique pieces in one category. So I would suggest, adding that flow to it as well. Where the user is seeing their monthly subscription, what they're getting, and then customizing that. 2. The font sizes that you've used are a little hard to read, The minimum suggested font for mobile screens is 16 pt for body text and 12pt for footnotes. Consider that next time you design. 3. At the bottom of the Customize your ring screen, I see that you've added product details in 5 columns. Now that could be problematic in two ways. One is that if the length of the text changes, this layout will not work. And secondly, on small screens or screens with a not-so-good resolution, the text won't be legible. So, if you can't keep them all in separate rows (which would be ideal), you can at least group similar information into rows. For example, color, shape, and cut could be in one row and carat and clarity in the second. Hope that helps

very cool! one thing I would suggest is giving the CTAs a bit more contrast I feel like they kind of blend in and get lost in the UI. It's hard for me to tell whats the main action I should take on a screen. The screen with the "Customize your own ring now" button feels a bit busy, it's not clear whats the main action I should take. Can either make the "customize" button stand out more if this is an important feature of this business or even stack the "customize" & "add to cart" buttons to make it clear for users at first glance to either customize or add this item to your cart.

The design is simple yet elegant.

I liked the clarity. Even the colour used is quite catchy. I wished that the arrows on the left and right of the image were the same but with a thin white outline instead of boxes. Overall the design looks good.

The UI looks simple and engaging. I have only concern with the font size, it seems to have a readability issue for visually impaired people.

One thing I have to say is that your UI is very clean which makes it eye-catching. I really liked the AR option, customize option is more visible it will be helpful for the user. One suggestion is that there can be more detailed information in the customize screen and typography can also be improved. Now only the selected one has the name. Nice Design!!

Hi Sachin, you did really well to solve last week's challenge. I liked 3 steps easy and simple subscription plan. Also, the logo looks fantastic. Apart from that, I would like to suggest some improvements. 1. You can do better on content hierarchy. Currently, it looks a little bit congested with lots of content. You can break down the content in a hierarchy. 2. You can add more white space and negative space around the content so that it looks more clean and easy to understand for users. This also applies to the buttons. 3. There is a little bit of inconsistency in icon selection and their sizes. Overall, great work. All the best and keep it up.

Hello @Neha Gupta Thank you for your feedback The main problem statment is that users can customize jewellery accordingly their need . if user like this feature of product than they will subscribe monthly subscription So if users want to buy monthly subscription then they can buy from profile page or we can add advertise poster at the home page and also add poster to the customize page

Hey Parth, I like your idea about the reel. One thing at the top of my head while looking at it was that although it's a very clean design, it doesn't address the monthly subscription part of the problem statement. That the users are to customise their pieces for the subscription. Other than that, the cards on the customized section of the screen look exactly like the other cards. I believe it'd be a good idea to also add what kind of customisation they made to card. A different layout of card would help them differentiate them without having to read the headings. Lastly, it's a very specific thing I'm mentioning, but I think it'll help you. I see two screens that look similar (with ring image on the half of the screen and 3 buttons below it). Now from what I understand, one of those is for customizing and the other one is general product screen. You see that the gap between the buttons there is inconsistent. Now it's a small thing but sometimes tiny changes bring about big impact in the overall appeal. So to fix this. If you're using Figma, add those 3 buttons in Auto layout and change the width of each button to Fill Container (instead of Hug Contents). That'll do the trick. I hope that helps. Hi Dhruvi, You have designed a very clean and minimal app to solve the challenge. There are couple of issues I would like to point out. 1. In the products list view, you only showed pictures with the product name. If the user wants to see the price then they need to open the product page. Again the price tag on the product page is not placed appropriately. What I suggest you to show the estimated price on the products list page, so users can quickly glance through the product price. Same thing you can do for the product rating. 2. Give proper labels or something like "1 Filter" when filters are applied by the users. It gives a kind of confirmation to users that their filters are applied. 3. button's label on the product details page doesn't have good contrast. It also looks a bit dull. 4. I am not sure for what purpose you put an arrow with the Jewellery label on the third screen of the first row. 5. I suggest you to keep the navigation bar on all the pages so that users can quickly access those navigation links from all the pages. Otherwise, great job. All the best and keep up the good work.

Hey Marcelo, I quite like your design. The overall feel is quite premium and also matches the kinda jewelry you have. Although the problem statement asked for customizations for a monthly subscription, I see that your design is missing both of them. The design is cool but doesn't solve the problem. As for some feedback on the UI: 1. You've set up some hierarchy using the contrast in font weights, but that contrast is not very easily visible. So a great tip, in that case, is to skip weights. What I mean by that is, don't use regular and bold combinations. Instead try light and bold, or regular and extra-bold. Try it out and see how that spices things up. 2. Consistency is very important and can change the look of the design in subtle ways. consistency in border radii consistency in spacing between elements consistency with the length of a full page button These are subtle changes, if you make your design would look much better with little effort. 3. When one screen contains more than one action button, decide on the primary one and that should be the main focus. any other action should be a secondary button (could be outlined or with a lighter fill) 4. Differentiate clickable links from regular text. (Edit and See All) People are used to seeing text in blue or underlined (or both) and assume it to be a link. So try that. I think that'd be all for now. Again, consistency... I can't stress this enough. Hope that helps.

This looks pretty premium and beautiful! The fonts look classy. The customization screen looks simple and accessible. And that 3D preview is a cool feature. Good job, mate! Maybe the only criticism is that the jewelry is pretty expensive lol

Hi Anjali! I love how you let users do the customization easily. It feels as easy as buying clothes, where users only need to choose the type of gem or size they want. But, here are some points I'd like to add: 1. The problem statement mentioned about monthly subscription. But I don't see anything about that from your design solution. Here, you are focused on users' journey to do the customization and then buy the jewelry. Adding that flow will make you solve the problem that arises. And ensure you also show what the benefits of joining the monthly subscription are. 2. Because this is for a jewelry app, I think it's better to use colors that give rich, expensive, and elegant feelings, like jewelry colors. Or using more neutral colors and playing more with other aspects of the visual design to achieve those feelings. 3. Even if this is customized jewelry, I think there are still some users that directly buy their jewelry without customizing it. So putting the "Add to Cart" button beside the "Customize" button is still needed in this case. Overall, your current design solution is already great. Hope that helps. Good job, Anjali!

Hi Shruti! I love how you pick the color palette. It gives expensive and elegant feelings like the jewelry itself. But, here are some points I'd like to add: 1. Your UI design is excellent, but I think you need to create a simpler one. Reducing some illustrations that don't benefit users' experience will work. Especially if you have text on top of that. 2. Playing more on the typography. You choose colors that give expensive and elegant feelings, but the typography gives the opposite sense. Sans serif is good for readability, but I think you can select another type of sans serif font, especially for the title. 3. Your design solutions for the customization are unique yet easy to understand. But I think you should keep the option for the customization under the size options. Giving users those two options for how to customize their jewelry will make life easier. 4. I think your design solutions need to work more on hierarchy and consistency. Because different page has a different style, e.g., the button is for the primary action, but it has different size and color. Hope that helps. Keep up the excellent work, Shruti!

Hi Neehal, I liked your clean design and the minimal color choices. Here are some of the improvements I would like to suggest. 1. Give a reference of how the ring size is calculated (as a user I don't know what 4.5 looks like in the real world) so users can select the accurate size when buying a ring. 2. Along with the rating, you can show the number of people who rated that product. 3. Rating can be shown on the product's images on the home page so that users can also see the rating without opening the product page. Otherwise great work. All the best and keep it up.

Hello Manvi Nice design but customization of products was not helpful to any customer there is no mentioned material, weight, size, etc selection option which will not be very good UI & UX for customers

You have done a good job Prathamesh. Although, there are. few things which you can keep in mind when designing the next time. The blue color is too sharp or bright for my likings and it doesn't match the theme of the app which is jewelery which needs to be elegant, expensive etc. Try to use bigger texts in cards which should be readable without the user really trying hard to read through it. Try to make the margins upto 24px and not more than that. A lot of space is getting wasted otherwise. Make sure you have navigation buttons on all pages. There is no back button in the 2nd screen which would cause problem if the user goes too ahead in the flow.

Hey Anup, I'd like to share a few points on improvements here... 1. You're using the color brown as your primary color here, which is not exactly helping the use case here. According to research, the color brown is associated with the feeling of cheapness, but the jewelry you're selling is pretty expensive. On top of that, brown is the least favorite color among both men and women. So, a good idea would be to use colors from the product itself, i.e. gold or green(ish) or maybe even black Source: https://coschedule.com/blog/color-psychology-marketing 2. Jewelry shopping is a very visual thing, and you have used that fact very well with the images of the pieces. What I would suggest is also visualize the various customizations you're offering. For example, with the metal, stone, and shape customizations, people would find their images much more appealing than text. 3. When a person is presented with a form, the first thing they do is figure out how long it would take to fill it. And the longer that time, the more likely they are to not do it at all. In your design, the customization inputs that you're asking them for are too many in number and their layout is such that they are seen all at once (that too in 2 columns, their eyes are all over the place). In some cases, you could limit those options. But if that's not the case, another way that you can fix this is by presenting that in a linear fashion. Just 1 column, multiple rows, and lots of negative space between them, so that the user is not overwhelmed by the sheer number of them. Additionally I would suggest you to keep up with latest design trends on behance or dribbble (don't go on google for design inspiration anymore) Hope that helps.

Hi Anup, Great Work!! I would like to share a few comments on the design. Focus on the colors, fonts, hierarchy, and usability. Home screen - Having such a big banner makes the other sections to visible less. Using a good & right text in the banner makes users attract (Showing offers, Discounts, or the way of easy customization). Dark Backgrounds decrease the image visibility and clarity. Second screen - There should be an option to where the user can go to the home screen or other screens. Customize Jewellery - Buttons sizes are not user friendly.

Hey Gokul! My feedback is going to be short and simple. If you are using phone mockups, try to design for the similar screen resolution or rather you necessarily don't need to put your screens into phone mockups. Try to improve spacing and group things together which beling to each other. You can improve padding in cards because negative spacing is quite important for the content to be consumed with ease. You don't need to put the cost of the product inside a pie chart. Mostly there isn't going to be a minimum or a maximum price for these products.
